ASSIGNMENT TASK

 Assessment Brief

Task 1 Find the United Kingdom’s unemployment and employment rates on the ONS website (link below) and download in excel the table for the last two years ending with October 2024 for both employment and unemployment. (This figure is due to be published on 12 November 2024). https:/ /www.ons.gov.uk/  Using the information from the excel document, create a visual data set using a line graph:
1.Write an introduction that defines:
a)Employment
                        b)Unemployment
                        c)Underemployment
                        d)Overemployment
2.Using the graph that you created, describe three important, general features/trends on the data set, using examples from it.

a) In your description, you will need to account for the difference in the figures for employment and unemployment (see Week 7.2 slides for guidance)

3.Explain the possible causes of the three key features/trends using sources as evidence.

4.Explain, with evidence, the potential impact of the three key features/trends                         a) in general
b) and on organisations or industries in the area you are going to study such as Health (including Mental Health and Health and Social Care), Business, Hospitality, Law and all other degree pathways.

5. Include appropriate in-text citations and reference lists.

TASK 2:

The following relates to the unemployment data for the Canada, United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK). You will need to download in excel the data from the three sources provided for the two years ending with October 2024 (you have already done so for the United Kingdom). Using your skill in excel, create a line graph for each similar to that of TASK 1 (you can superimpose the three graphs).

In this section you are required to compare the unemployment rate for the three countries listed below:

a. Canada https:/ /ycharts.com/indicators/canada_unemployment_rate
b. United Kingdom https:/ /www.ons.gov.uk/
c. United States of America https:/ /www.bls.gov/charts/employmentsituation/civilianunemploymentrate.htm

To complete the comparison, you will need to look at how each of the countries gather the data for unemployment. State how similar or different the data collection method is and then write a commentary on three important, general features/trends on the data set, using information from the graph(s) you have created.
