WRITING YOUR ASSIGNMENT
- This assignment must be completed individually.
- You must use the Harvard referencing
- Your work must indicate the number of words you have used. Written assignments must not exceed the specified maximum number of words.
- When a written assignment is marked, the excessive use of words beyond the word limit is reflected in the academic judgement of the piece of work which results in a lower mark being awarded for the piece of work (regulation 6.74).
- Assignment submissions are to be made anonymously. Do not write your name anywhere on your work.
- Insert a cover page at the beginning of the assignment that includes the assignment title, module name, student ID number and the word count.
- Write your student ID number at the top of every page.
- Where the assignment comprises more than one task, all tasks must be submitted in a single document.
- You must number all pages.
- The work is to be submitted as a single, WORD-document.
SUBMITTING YOUR ASSIGNMENT
- In order to achieve full marks, you must submit your work before the deadline.
Work that is submitted late – if your work is submitted on the same day as the deadline by midnight, your mark will receive a 10% penalty. If you submit your work up to TWO working days after the published submission deadline – it will be accepted and marked. However, the element of the module’s
assessment to which the work contributes will be capped with a maximum mark of 40%.
- Work cannot be submitted if the period of 2 working days after the deadline has passed (unless there is an approved extension). Failure to submit within the relevant period will mean that you have failed the assessment.

Task 1 Find the United Kingdom’s unemployment and employment rates on the ONS website (link below) and download in excel the table for the last two years ending with October 2024 for both employment and unemployment. (This figure is due to be published on 12 November 2024). https:/ /www.ons.gov.uk/ Using the information from the excel document, create a visual data set using a line graph: a) In your description, you will need to account for the difference in the figures for employment and unemployment (see Week 7.2 slides for guidance) 3.Explain the possible causes of the three key features/trends using sources as evidence. 4.Explain, with evidence, the potential impact of the three key features/trends a) in general 5. TASK 2:The following relates to the unemployment data for the Canada, United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK). You will need to download in excel the data from the three sources provided for the two years ending with October 2024 (you have already done so for the United Kingdom). Using your skill in excel, create a line graph for each similar to that of TASK 1 (you can superimpose the three graphs). In this section you are required to compare the unemployment rate for the three countries listed below: a. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Your coursework assignment will be scored based on the following criteria:
- Overview and description of key features (0-25%): Writing an overview of the data; identifying three important, general features/trends of the data and providing an accurate description of each feature with examples from the data.
- Explanation of causes (0-25%): Explaining the possible causes of the three features of the data, using evidence from appropriate sources.
- Explanation of impacts (0-25%): Explaining the general impacts / implications of the key features and their impacts / implications on your chosen subject area, using evidence from appropriate sources.
- Analysis of similarities and differences (0-25%): Analysing the similarities and differences in the unemployment rates in the three countries, using evidence from appropriate sources.
